Flathead Valley Community College’s international student club, Global Friends, will screen two award-winning documentaries in April. Offered in collaboration with Love Lives Here and the Montana Human Rights Network, the Global Friends Film Fest will feature Human Flow on Monday, April 8 and Fire at Sea on Monday, April 22. Following each film, Global Friends will host a discussion.

Both films will begin at 6 p.m. in the large community room of the Arts and Technology Building. The festival is open to everyone, and there is no charge to attend.

Human Flow was shown April 8 to a crowd of about 60 people.

On April 22, we will show Fire at Sea, an Academy Award nominee for Best Documentary, which was shot on the Sicilian island of Lampedusa during the European migrant crisis in 2016 and sets the migrants' dangerous Mediterranean crossing against a background of the ordinary life of the islanders.

“While furiously stoked myths of otherness are threatening to suck our civilization down a whirlpool of paranoia, Fire At Sea argues that the only race on this planet is the human one,” according to RoberEbert.com contributor Glenn Kenny.
